more spring stuff

Good stuff, too, especially for barefoot runners and walkers—I got to do both today—about an hour walk with my wife and dog this morning—and then another 30 minute run this afternoon after work.  Glorious weather in the 70s, humidity is still low.  California weather right here in Tennessee.  I walked barefoot today; ran in my mocs.  I find that I can get  a good fast pace going in the mocs.  If I’m running totally barefoot—which I still love—my stride is a little shorter, and my pace is a little slower.  There is nothing wrong with a slow steady pace, especially as I near my 47th birthday.  But as the man said, I want to rock while I can rock, roll while I can roll, so if I can burn up some fast paced miles in the mocs, I will do it.   But I can’t wait to hit Centennial Park on Saturday and get in a solid hour barefoot in the grass!

i’ll have another, please

Today is even more Spring time glorious than yesterday.  Played a great gig in St Louis last night, got up too early—-I guess it’s the old man thing….or maybe I just live to run in the morning…anyway, woke up  early, put on my moccasins and ran for a good hour.  Felt great.  A bit of knotting in my calves—I think it comes with age and the barefoot technique—your calves are doing most of the work—-and i think therefore saving your achilles tendons, knees, hips, back.  At least in my case, that seems to be the way it works.  If I work on the knots w/  a tennis ball or even a rolling pin—-there has to be one around here somewhere…it helps a lot.

The main thing is this:  I’m running, and it feels great.

spring glory

I’m in St Louis for work.  Glorious spring day.  I have the day free, so I ran for about 90 minutes in my SoftStar Run Amok mocassins.  I love it!  Now when I’m on the road and running on unfamiliar ground, I can lace on these near bare mocs, with their 2mm vibram soles, and run to my heart’s desire.  Today, my heart’s desire never gave out until finally after 90 minutes, my left calf started to feel a bit knotty.  So I walked and made it back to my friend’s house.  Glorious!  Now I can nap and play a show tonight.
